This building, built in 1908 as a bicycle shop, it housed many businesses over its 117 years. Most are lost to history. Most recently it was a bar that sat vacant for a number of years. Our client wanted to keep the original feel to the space but create a lighter feel for her coffee shop. Working within the confines of the Brighton Historic Preservation Commission We kept it simple, whitewashing all of the old dark wood, removing rotten wood floor and pouring a bit of concrete. Urban Grain Custom Cabinetry built the bar and kids corner with backlit walls. The electrical, plumbing, HVAC and bathrooms were brought up to code and every inch was inspected and all the little deficiencies were addressed. The final touches were the murals on the back wall inside the shop and on the exterior west wall facing the deck above the parking lot.
